Hungerford 6 - 3 Wantage

Hungerford won the Boxing day derby in a pulsating first half at Bulpit Lane. Despite a bright start from Wantage Hungerford scored two early goals, the first from Edney who latched on to a defensive error and lobbed the ball over the keeper, the secodn from Gosling who ended a great passing move by dummying a defender and striking past the helpless Wantage keeper to score off the post. Credit has to go to Wantage as unlike most teams they did not give up and kept driving forward and were rewarded with a goal to make it 2 - 1 but then almost imeaditately Gosling scored his second taking the ball past the Wantage right back before driving the ball across the keeper and in. 4 - 1 soon followed when Gosling layed Concannon in for a typical finish. With a minute to go before half time 4 - 1 seemed the likely score however Wantage won a penalty, or rather Terry rashley gave it away, Dominic Green got his hands to it but failed to stop it. Hungerford went straight up the other end and Jamie Mills finished in the six yard box, so it was in fact 5 - 2 at half time
Wantage scored straight after the break via a rather fortunate deflection but the the game fazzed out rather with Hungerford seeing content to hold the 5 - 3 lead. Despite this a late break saw Terry score converting a great cross from second half sub Richie Guy.

It was a game where Hungerford showed why they could go deep into the Vase rounds (The first half) and why the might come unstuck (the second half). If Wantage had a striker of Gosling or Concannons ability it could seriously had of been 8 - 8

Almondsburys unbeliveable run continues and we really need them to start dropping points. As North Leigh did on Boxing Day.

team

Dominic - Did not have a chance with any of the goals and was solid throughout.
Macca M - Solid display
Millsy - Worked hard but fadded in the second half
Tobs - Regaining some early season form
Macca N - Lots of hard work
Bedders - A tower of strenght and leadership
Tarrick - The goal could over shadow a rather poor display.
Edders - Deserver the goal for all his hard work, and wilingness to scarfice the best side of his game
Gosser - A brilliant first half for Gosser killed off Wantage, hope the second half knock is trivial
Conners - Took one goal well and only a good save and a bad finish stoped another hatrick
Fitchy - Sometimes the team seems to revolve around him, that's not always great though.

SUBS
Ritchy - Did well in the second half and created a goal
Shandy - A bright late introduction (Tarrick beware?)

Attendance 100 - A few more Hungerfordians turning up for once! Dodgy Turkey in Town perhaps?
